A thing of Beauty — San Antonio’s Oblate Missions’ Lourdes Grotto

Saturday, June 2nd, 2007

Just returning from San Antonio for a leadership conference, I came across the Oblate Missions Lourdes Grotto.

This is a replica of the cave located at Lourdes, France where Catholics believe that St. Bernadette was visited by the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The grotto was dedicated on December 4, 1941 — the day the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbot.
The grotto is a place of beauty and reverence. It features a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the upper wall of the cave looking down on a statue of a kneeling St. Bernadette.
The place is so beautiful and peaceful and is worth a stop for Cathoics and non-Catholics alike.
